First athletes turning their backs or kneeling. US should tell them to get home best they can.. Now if the "big name" stars slip and fall or have a "bad" day and realize they can't win the gold they just quit. Holler mental illness. But then they are afraid someone will think they are crazy and put out a statement "my mind was somewhere else. Yes can't stand the thoughts of getting beat so just with draw. Reminds me of a fisherman in the bassmasters classic few years back was leading after day one. He had zeroed the second day and about an hour before checking in he goes inside the marine an "off limits" area so he got DQ'ed . His ride along boat official kept telling him it was off limits and he went in anyway. Couldn't stand the fact of walking across the stage with no fish.

It’s a tough call a lot of people worked their butts off to get there and are thrilled to represent our Nation it’s to bad a few mess it up for the rest. If they don’t get a handle on the politics the end of the games might not be far off. I’m not watching that’s my protest!

Quitting or retiring is not acceptable in the middle of a competition, barring a physical injury,in my opinion.Even with physical injurys some atheletes, especially hockey players play on until the end of the game or the season.Bobby Baun finished a playoff game with a broken leg.Talk about physical and mental toughness. If someone has doubts about their abilitys they should pull out before the competition, and if they try their best but cant cut the mustard during the competition, they should retire afterwards. Another symptom of todays unravelling social fabric.

The Olympics have been about politics for a long time. It has become nothing more than a bunch of professional athletes having a sex orgy every 4 years. Could not careless about them and do not watch them.

Byrd, before you condemn you should maybe do some investigating what may be ailing her.
I did 49 . SHE FELL OUT OF BOUNDS on her first pass in the prelims. NO WAY SHE WAS GETTING THE GOLD. Yes she has been great in the past but LOSING is something shes not used to and couldn't handle. YES it got to her because she knew the rest of the games was basically over for her as far as receiving a gold medal. She wrapped her thigh trying to say that was why but did stand up and say no injury just did not have the concentration. Hard to keep on going when your ego is that big and you know you won't come out on top. Where did you get your insight on what was wrong with her. If she had been white the news would have CRUCUFIED HER...

Funny, I went to our local health department for my covt.-19 shot. On the table when you walk in was a bucket of condoms. A great deal of any sport is a mind game.

"Strug under-rotated the landing of her first attempt, causing her to fall and injure her ankle. As a result, the attempt was awarded 9.162 points. Strug needed to land a second vault on her feet in order to mathematically clinch the gold.
In the time interval between Strug's two vaults, she asked, "Do we need this?" Károlyi replied, "Kerri, we need you to go one more time. We need you one more time for the gold. You can do it, you better do it." Strug thus limped slightly to the end of the runway to make her second attempt. She landed the vault briefly on both feet, almost instantly hopping onto only her good foot, saluting the judges. She then collapsed onto her knees and needed assistance off the landing platform, to which sportscaster John Tesh commented, "Kerri Strug is hurt! She is hurt badly." The completed vault received a score of 9.712, mathematically guaranteeing the Americans the gold medal, Károlyi carried her onto the medals podium to join her team, after which she was treated at a hospital for a third-degree lateral sprain and tendon damage. Due to her injury, she was unable to compete in the individual all-around competition and event finals, despite having qualified for both.

And Kurt Angle took the gold wrestling with a broken neck. His WWE career aside, the guy has my respect for that alone.

An 18 year old US citizen from Minnesota won gold in the all around event, good for her. As doors close others open. Biles stepping back may have been good for the rest of the team. We don't know but it may have worked out that way.
