Is there a skunk specific bait that will attract skunks only and not coons or possums? Everything I put out attracts all 3. I have a skunk problem and don't want to catch the others unless they become a problem. I'm using a body grip trap in a box set.

I dont think it is possible to bait skunk only.
You could use a cage trap or foothold and release other than skunk.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I know on my line my skunk catch is about 4 or 5 times higher on sets I use a skunky lure. Not sure of straight quill would be enough to draw them into a box or not.

The only thing I ever caught on a remake of a skunk catch was another skunk. Maybe quill isn't an absolute but it would help reduce non-targets.

I do a fair amount of nuisance trapping and my theory has become any animal will go to any bait if a trap is on location sooner or later.I use cabbage a lot for groundhogs and catch coon, rabbit, possum, skunk, squirrel, feral cat and even chipmunks and birds on it.Not saying all bait is the same just saying if their hungry they will give it a sniff.

In the past if I am targeting skunk for animal control in the summer I just use my left over bait from the previous season.

Thanks everyone. I looked up quill and it seems possible. Kind of high price though. If my skunk problem gets bad enough I'll try it. I don't like the foothold or live trap method, I can't shoot where I live, don't like the idea of releasing a mad coon from a foot hold, don't want to go the syringe route, so I worked out my box trap method. Works very well but I don't want to kill non target species that aren't causing trouble.

Once you catch a skunk you wouldn't have to buy it anymore if it works.

Cheap artificial banana flavoring from the grocery store should get the job done for you. Skunks love banana

Just happy to be here.

Just thought of a question about quill. The last skunk I trapped stunk up the box trap so bad that even with washing (I forget what I used) nothing would go in the trap after that. So I had to build a new box trap.

If I use quill, will it in effect do the same thing and I'll need 2 box traps, one for skunks and another for everything else?

I run 50 cages some years I just set, bait and check the more you set the more options you can try a possum will eat anything even another possum I doubt you can ward them off anything it is what it is.

bananas seem to work well for skunks.

Tried that last summer with no luck. Maybe no one has told the ones around here that they are supposed to like bananas....

My pet skunk would not touch a banana for some reason, I use a lot of marshmallows for skunks they seem to do the trick and avoids most cats in the area.
