Been spearing carp this summer my shoulder can’t take a bow draw yet it’s been a learning process trying to keep the fish on the tip most days. Sticking them is not hard and if you can pin them on the bottom most tips will work for that. With the bigger scales most tips blow a bigger hole then the prong so they come of pretty easy. They either swim off the barbs when they flop or the tip pulls out bringing the fish back in.

I tried several points most were disappointing the straight rod point with the flipper barb did not penetrate well enough to work with the big scales but on a heavy spear pole it might do the job then. Just got the 3 prong paralyzer tip that worked well so far but it’s still easy to flip the fish off with a swing and pulling the spear back.

The sling pole works well but it’s tough on my hands holding it to wait for a shot but is cool when things come together and it works.

This tip might work better on a heavy wooden pole but not so great on my spear pole.

So far this held the best but I still need to work with it more.

If you wrap a bit of tape or line around the pole spear it will be much easier to hold "cocked". The tip in the first pic is for soft fish you can go all the way through, the one in the bottom pic is for small fish and lobster that would be difficult to hit with the single. On Carp ive had luck with a similar tip pictured for carp

The scales are like armor on a carp I have a 5 prong gig on a heavy wooden pole that works well up to the bringing back it part then they get off. The arrow tips needs velocity that a spear pole cannot create compared to being shot from a bow, I have a bow but a ripped shoulder muscle that can’t take the pressure of the draw.

Halibut harpoon is sharp and the pole is pretty heavy. Ive got 2 styles of points one is faceted with 3 faces to the point the other is round. The faceted point is sharp. Somebody was tired of losing stuff when they thought up the detachable head harpoon.... I've seen old video of Eskimos harpooning walrus which have some really thick skin and of course they also used hand harpoons on whales so they can penetrate tough stuff no doubt about it but not exactly sure regarding carp scales lol.

It’s all for fun and filling the bait freezer at the same time. They get wise pretty fast 1-2 a day behind the house spearing [Linked Image]
on calm days by the time I’m done for the day the wife has 6-12 caught on her 2 poles.

The carp are tough to stick all the way through even with the HD type gig while pinning them on the bottom even. I was shocked how tough he skin/scale combo was to get the barbs through.
