Are you talking about a fish or our buddy, Don?

The fish has no retail value. All are released if alive. Meat is sometimes smoked.

Heresay of course, but my boy and another captain talked to some involved. They were hooked up on a big blue marlin that they couldn't stop and swamped the deck when they were backing down on it . There were 8-10 foot seas yesterday so once you're low in the water its over. Pretty surreal. My boy has mated some over the years during the the White Marlin Open and made his mother worry plenty. four years ago there was a tornado that went through sunset marina and then on out to sea. My boy still has the video of them passing it on the way about 1/2 mile away.

Too big to turn and run with him, too small to keep the water out.

Folks that have never experienced a gunwale going under swamping have no clue just how fast you can go from deck underfoot to nothing. I'm leary of anchoring to this day.

Backing down in 8 -10' seas is a really dumb thing to do, the captain should have known that before he put it in reverse. It's just a fish, they're lucky they all lived.

WOW probably 1957ish I was mate in this tournament. There were 72 boats and only three fish were caught, two by the same boat. The boat I was on was owned by a milk company name started with For-----. WE went out but not for long. Weather was bad or even worse, many boat did not go out. The boat were certainly different and so was the equipment. Boy that was a looong time ago.......jk
