I have a chance to pick up a couple guns from an older gentleman that says he done with them. I want to make him a fair offer on them. One is a Remington 660 in a .308. I don’t know a lot about this one, other than they were only made about 3 years. The 2nd is a Winchester model 70 lightweight in .270 win. This was was made in 79 or 80 the best I can find out. Both are in 95% or better. Just looking on line prices are everywhere on them. I have pictures if it would help. Thanks

I'd say $500-600 on the Remington unless its sporting expensive glass, and about the same on the Winchester. Depends on how bad you want them but I'd offer 500 each (plus whatever the scopes maybe worth). That's a pre-covid estimate, no telling what some would pay these days.

I'd offer the old timer some yard work, and friendly conversations from time to time in exchange for them.
Seriously, ask him what he wants for them.
Like I always say, "I can't buy them and sell them too." "Give me a starting point brother."

just looking at the auctions

the 660 in 308 between 700 and 900 I can only fine 3 examples
in other calibers it seems 850 would still be fair

the M70 featherweight post 64 are a little less obviously depends on condition but 800-1100 seems the range

I would ask what he wants for them and give him that if you think it is fair.

Unless the scopes are much newer than the rifles I would not add any value for them. Today's optics are so much better than anything available 30 - 40 years ago that most folks want a new scope. Whoever ends up with either of those rifles will probably put a new scope on it and end up with an old scope for which there is no market. I have several scopes that fit that description.

Most scopes but some examples such as the Lyman Alaskan do hold their value in the collectible market. Usually exemplars of craftsmanship or technology not so much user value. Much like old traps to a degree.

Some have a lifetime warranty as well and if they are no longer up to snuff they can be replaced by the manufacturer.

The Winchester has an older Leupold Vari-x-II on it, think it’s a 4x12. The Remington does not have one. We do make time to stop and talk to him when we can. Take care of his drive in the winter and check on him regularly. Won’t talk deals on Sunday, so we will see come Monday.

That might be the post O'Bama and pre Biden prices.

I'd be interested to see how it turns out for ya.

660 Trigger guard is plastic, as long as it is not warped and the rib is straight $550-$650 is fair among friends. Worth about 750-900 depending on condition.
