Who has large county/area maps up on the wall to use to map out your line? The ones i found online are quite expensive, may see if kinkos or somewhere can blow something up out if a plat book. Any other websites?

Try your local County assessors office and see if the have any outdated ones.

I buy the fishing hot spots map for any lake I fish that I can find one

I really like nice big maps and I remember going to a map makers office with my dad when I was a kid he bough a bunch of maps of places we hunted and fished

used to get my great uncles used navigation charts for Green bay and Lake Michigan , the salvage company bought new ones every year and he could get us old ones every few years things didn;t change enough for it to matter in our boat.

I got my wife using these county land records maps , she was the "detective" when people would sell properties and not call the co-op to switch the LP tank

some of her co-workers thought she was magic or something the way she could find and get the new property owners name and info to get the tank switched

she would also watch MLS and Obituaries so you knew when to go looking

then they closed her office and now who cares where the company assets are.

mytopo.com. Somewhat pricey but very customizable. I have a laminated map from them with my cabin centered in it.

My dad used to use something very similar to what GCP posted a link to.
He had all of his customers marked so that he could plot the most efficient route based on the stops that he had to make on a given day.
Coincidentally, that also covered Green county.
He glued it to a board and covered it with plexiglass so that he could make his daily marks with a grease pencil.

US Geodetic Survey has large topo maps available.

I was going to ask if these were still available. I kept quadrangle maps all through junior high and high school for the properties I run.

Oh yeah, Can be ordered on line or by mail. Get a master index for your state first. Lot's of outdoors/outfitter/backpacker/canoeing type stores sell them too.

An old Topo map for an area where a new lake went in will show an amazing amount of bottom detail for that lake! Contours, dwellings, roads, bridges etc.

Delorme maps can get you any plat map for a fee.

I always had a copyshop blow up "Atlas and Gazateer " pages and glued them to split open cereal boxes . This worked great for long road lines . I made notes and marked sets on these maps I have several years of these in a box somewhere . If one copy store wont blow it up over copyright concerns try another

I use MyTopo for custom maps for when I go backpacking. You can customize the size and such, I think you can even get satellite photo maps. For a regular topographic map 24x36", it's like $17 plus shipping. It's a lot more if you want something besides a basic topo map, or laminated, etc.



Otherwise my state publishes a public land atlas every year, and it's got every road on it, along with every public area marked out, and it's pretty detailed ....1"=4 miles.
