in addition every vote gets printed , the person verifies the print out is what they want then it is scanned by the counter every batch gets sealed with a results sheet for that batch then sealed in a box , so that we actually have a chain of custody on every ballot.

for military set up on base voting , and allow early in person voting with every ballot being placed in a sealed container and verified the lock and seal not broken by 3 people again maintain chain of custody

the low tech systems are easily secured multi person observation and a sealed ballot container with chain of custody

it can be done

but people have to want it and staff it

No day off needed, but going back to an election DAY sounds like a good idea.

Sprung and rusty is right ya know. Even before all these extra days were added the last few elections, all you needed to do was vote absentee if you were not going to be present on election day.

Correct. If you "can't" vote now you're not even trying.

I saw something on a CA waterfowl forum this morning that is amazing. On the recall ballot for Newsom, you first color in a circle for either yes or no for the recall. Then you vote for your choice of candidates.

On the outside of the envelope there is a box to sign, and to the right and left of the box there are two holes about 3/8" in diameter. If you put your ballot in the envelope, (larger than a normal one), like most folks would, your "yes" vote is visible through one of the two holes. If you voted against the recall, you see nothing through the other hole. Imagine how many of those envelopes will end up in the dumpster. The holes serve no other purpose.

I remember an important election twenty years or so ago in SF, and days later, fishermen found full ballot boxes floating in the bay. They even showed them on TV and nothing happened.

1. Show ID to vote
2. Ballot goes into a locked container with witnesses
3. Ballots tallied by hand with observers

I remember after he was president, Jimmy Carter went somewhere in Africa to ensure a legal election process. Maybe we need somebody from Botswana or Chad to help us with ours. 2022 is going to be big.

AKAjust...no, election day should not be a day off work, unless one chooses to miss work on their own.

Why would you buy someone's vote by giving them the day off with pay. You may as well tell them the only way they get paid is to vote for a particular party then!

That's all the Democrat party does is promise that "We'll" give you something if you vote for our party. In return that they win! Promises, promises, promises.

If you left, you wouldn't be remembered at all.

I've seen guys like you come and go over the years, and no one remembers who they are anymore.

No.

Used to down in Mexico the voting for President would be a two day deal on Friday and Saturday with bars and liquor stores closed during voting hours.
I think the hours were 7 AM to 10 PM on both days.

I am in for multiple days of voting , IF and only IF

a volunteer for every candidate is watching the sealed every ballot box 24/7

you want to be on the ballot you need a volunteer or group of volunteers to be on the ballot observation staffing

if you trust people you could have one volunteer could represent more than one candidate but no fewer than 3 people watching the box from the time the first ballot enters the box till the count is complete and ballots with results sheets clearly showing , batch number , total ballots and count of each candidate on the ballots results are sealed in clear plastic bags with serialized tamper seals. and moved to a locked and seal secured space for storage and those people must be selected by the candidates

if you don't have enough people who will volunteer for you how will you ever get enough votes ?

the only people worse for elections than the people who ran the 2020 elections would be the FED they can't seem to get anything right.

we need MORE involvement in the election process not less

the problem IS how little involvement there is , a few key people in an election collection and count CAN change the outcome of an election.

What if Ohio wants to allow mail-in votes, and Virginia says in-person only? That's the system we have now. Each state makes its own rules. It leads to inconsistent rules.

The only way I know of to achieve consistency is for the feds to set the rules. Not a desirable result, imho.

States have mismanaged themselves into a place where they are controlled by fed money.

A day off would give more opportunities for those that work in "essential" work environments or places where time off, vacation etc. are not options in their place of work. This would be especially important for those living in states or areas where there are concerted efforts to limit the hours, forms etc. of voting. One would think that creating opportunity for those that work would be a good thing. One could also look at Sunday as an option as several other nations do.
