Have you ever tried mixing it? Half southern and half northern or does that ruin it for southern beaver?

It may be hard to get much northern castor at $80 a pound, but the cost of lure is tied to the cost of ingredients. To pay more, I'd have to raise the price of my lure. Its only been a few years since my last price increase, and I would hate to do that again. So, I may not be able to do much with this idea at this time.

No I haven't tried that, but I believe the stronger northern castor odor would overpower the southern castor odor.

Could we be seeing a strange conundrum in the trapping world. As societal norms change the demand for fur wanes so less wildlife caught, less wildlife caught equals less wildlife byproduct such as glands entering the market. HOWEVER, with less wildlife caught increases wildlife conflict, hence increased nuisance/adc trapping much of which prohibits sale of wildlife parts yet also requires those same parts in the form of lures.

I think if you paid $90/lb for Northern you would get all you wanted. I averaged $100/lb at FHA but after commission it’s about $90.

It's not that there aren't any, its that my demand has outstripped the amount that's available from my suppliers. Last year I purchased 328 pounds of castor, and all of it went into lure, mostly Backbreaker. This year, I will have to purchase more than the previous year if I'm to meet the demand for the lure.

I think too many trappers found out that this lure attracts more than beavers.

I may be able to offer $100 a pound in trade for lure. I'd have to run the numbers to be sure though.

I posted a thread on using your Skunky Backbreaker as a bear lure. It absolutely worked. Took me two days and several scrubbings to get that odor off my fingers.

You could do like they are doing in stores , keep the same price and make a smaller size.

Can't speak for him, but, not sure he wants to go that route. There's nothing like "authentic".
