Gm closed all its North American operations today. Based on some of your guys logic I guess they will have record profits again because their production cost will be low .! Toyota and Chrysler also are cutting production. Wonder if the profit is because of the electric subsidies they are still getting but zero income from sales plus no production cost ? https://www.mau.com/workforce-insights/the-2021-semiconductor-chip-shortage-what-why-and-whats-nextWOW according to this article Ford will loose 2 billion this year , BUT wait on their profit reports that is keeping the stock market juiced they had record profits!! Which is it . Maybe my prediction (another one) is true

I knew who posted this just by the title.
Operations are halted next week at many plants because of the chip shortage.
Austin Tx, Flint Assembly, where it makes its heavy-duty pickups, Bowling Green Assembly in Kentucky, where it makes its Corvette, and a portion of Lansing Grand River Assembly, where it will make some Chevrolet Camaro and Cadillac Blackwing cars will still be running.

Great. GM just called yesterday and told me to contact my dealership and pick out a truck for my repurchase. There’s not inventory on the lots and most of the trucks online are in transit and are sold before they get to the dealership. It would take a high country to equal the options I have on my window leaking LTZ.

I wonder if this would be a time to start making chips or get rid of that and go back to old school where a combustion engine does not need a computer? Where do these "chips" come from and I wonder why there would be a shortage? I bet they would find tons of them if they started making trucks/ cars without them. LLL

Trucks should be trucks, not 4wd luxury vehicles. Crank windows don't need chips. Manual seats don't need chips.

I'm sure these chips are made in China by coincidence. Next will be communications failure.

Yes family friend works for a local factory that does seats and interiors. They are shut down all next week. Rumored next 2 weeks. hope it isn't along shut down in 2010 the Gm plant in Janesville WI shut down the not a secret that it seems everyone likes to ignore is GM always closes the oldest plant or so I have been told by former GM employees that have worked at more than one plant that closed we had a seat factory in town that also closed when GM did I could stand on my front porch and count 12 foreclosures the value of my house was 1/2 almost over night. there are 3 of us from before the collapse in the neighborhood it is ugly to see it all collapse , I hope your family doesn't have to experience that

The change and feel that has taken place from 2005 through 2012 was dramatic.

LLL I agree, we should be able to produce that which we need in this country, in this country. Would be nice to buy a plain jane pickup, roll up windows, nothing fancy just affordable and reliable.

A vast majority of the chips are made in Taiwan by ASMC.
They are trying to move some of their operations to Texas. The big fear is that before it can happen China is going to try to take over Taiwan..... again.
Millions of trees die every year to print environmentalist publications
