Have an 18 quart Nesco roaster, maybe 5 years old. Had it going yesterday to slow cook some soup bones on low. Turned it up in the evening to cook off some liquid and it quit working.
Checked the manual, no help at all.
Any ideas? I've never heard of these things not working. The orange indicator light comes on, but no heat at all.

Took the bottom off. Pretty sure I found the culprit. One of the wires going to the heat blanket is broken near the dial. I'll have to see if there is enough length to repair. Not sure on what type of splice I could use in there with the heat, if any.

The broken wire is on the left. Also looks like some insulation damage on the very thin wire on the right.

I think I would get a flat bar with two screw holes. About a inch long, brass. Fasten to existing screw pointing towards stub of wire, then clamp wire under second screw. But I would also check Ohms of heating element first, that burnt for a reason....0 resistance it's probably shorted. Strange as those roasters are tanks. I have 2 we cook down stewed tomatoes in, large surface area cooks off water great.

you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

The screw where it connects, to the control , appears to be discolored. I would think , you have a loose connection , that created heating of the screw and wires and caused a burn off.

I would clean up the connections and the screw, or replace it. Get some contact paste and brush into connection. You will likely have to crimp a new end on the heater lead if it too short and a joiner link. I think your problem started with a loose connection, Get it fixed up you should be good to go.

Feeding grounds suggestion will work as well. old243

If it were me I would go to Fleet Farm and get a new one. I am not good with electrical and would rather spend a little than take the chance of that puppy starting a fire.

That broken wire looks more like a fuse link. Does it look like copper? The melt damage to the wire end and the nut looks like a warning.
