The gentleman in this story, Just Another Day , has succumbed to Lou Gehrig’s Disease. A disease he made no mention of in our conversations. I was informed that he was about to endure some aggressive treatment but passed quietly in his sleep before his first appointment.

RIP Mr. Sedrick.

Sorry to hear that Hobbie. The rural life sure is changing. Hopefully you will tell a few of his stories he related to you.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

Sorry for your loss....great story....and glad he didn’t have to go through all the BS. None of us could be so lucky to go peacefully....that’s a special club.

It's heartwarming you took time to listen and share a special moment with Mr Sedrick when you did. I too lost a friend to Lou Gehrigs Disease. After the diagnosis he spent his time preparing and doing everything he could to make his families transition to his absence easier. He told me he would fight to the end but would not be a long term burden (financially and otherwise) to his family. When he reached that point, he withheld food and water and said his goodbyes. It's a terrible disease. But Terry went through it with dignity. He didn't know if God was real until the end then confided in me he had no doubts as he had definitely felt his presence. I miss Terry and hope to see him again.

Going back a few years. After spending a winter reading about fly fishing the spring creeks of Pennsylvania I packed the truck and hit the road in June. This was before GPS and all that so all I had was a map. I'm spit balling all over South East Pa and come across a wooden bridge, so I slow down to cross. Look to my left to see a slight build grey beard old man sitting on the bank with a fly rod. Pull off and walk down slow so not to spook him. Said hello, asked if he got any and parked my butt on a rock. I sat and chatted in amazement as I watched him take a minnow out of his wicker creel , thread it with a needle attached to his leader , shove in down its throat and out its -ss. It was a small treble hook to boot. Tied it off, stood up , and I watched him fish that pool with an upstream mend. Old man was north of 80 years. I believe some encounters are by chance and some are predetermined. I was on that fishing trip to clear my head after dealing with life changes and I am sure that meeting was arranged by powers that be. When it touches your soul it's something more. Glad you had the time to know him HT.
