part of the problem is almost every available 20ga semi auto is made in turkey
the Charles daily still Turkey
unless you jump up to the Faranchi or Bennelli made in Italy the 1100 and 11/87 were the last 2 20ga semi auto made in the US
there are several 12ga but not much for 20ga
the Winchester SX4 is made in Portugal
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I have wanted guns before that my local dealer couldnt get by ordering, but I was able to find at another shop and had them shipped in. I recently wanted a Franchi Companion that wasn't available, I found it at Barrow guns in Butler Ga. They are a big Beretta, Franchi, and Beneli dealer. They had a good inventory. Try Scott Outdoors in Jay Fl. also.

solid reliable
Mossberg 500c 20ga
get the combo if she will ever need the slug barrel for deer , they shoot the Winchester and Hornady sabots slugs very well
extended Carlson's chokes make for very nice patterns
spend the rest of your money on ammo
my son bough his when he was 10 I liked it so much when I found one used I bought one for myself we have since added stock spacers to ours to make them fit 6'2" 14 inch length of pull
simple , parts available , chokes available all over the place I cannot say enough good things about the Mossberg 500 pump shotguns. I have many variations. I also picked up dirt cheap some beater parts guns. My newest favorite is 20 gauge youth model and a .410 500 E. Many custom stocks and parts out there. The one down I work around is the forearm click when hunting deer. I fix with glue and felt.
you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

I have the M2 with a youth stock, 24" barrel. Great shot gun. Little to no recoil. It's what I mainly grouse hunt with. The only problem I have is hitting a grouse. The monafeltro (sp.)is a good one to look at as well.

I would not consider a Benelli M-2 anywhere near bullet proof. I shot a new one that would jam 4-5 times per box of shells. Trap loads or 3" heavy loads. The bolt would start forward after throwing the empty and stop dead about the time the loaded shell was being lifted to line up with the barrel. This was one of several new guns and over half of them did the same thing. You can get a spring that is stronger that goes in the tub in the stock that fixes the problem. But should you need to replace springs in a $1300 shotgun to make it function? I shot cases of shells thought that gun before I replaced the spring and it got to where it would only jam 2-3 time per box of shells. I am not a fan of the M-2 I guess that different people have different experiences with the same item. I bought my M2 with the idea of having it serve as my do everything shotgun. So far, it has lived up to my expectations. Pheasant loads, goose loads and thousands of trap loads. Not a single malfunction since the first round and with the comfort tech stock I think that I could literally shoot it all day without any discomfort.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I was able to track down an m2 compact online in Minnesota but by the time I pay tax, shipping, and credit card fees it’ll be close to $1500. I just can’t stomach that
Pete, it sure would be cool to find a youth model 1187 or 1100 for her. I love those guns. Just not readily available right now and if you do find one they are stupid expensive.
Yote, the issues we are having when the escort are with full ejection from the chamber. I think it’s a combination of the extractor and ejector being worn. It will partially eject the shell but not fully extract it from the chamber so it can’t escape and allow the next to follow. It also does not retain the shell mag tube spring when you take the end nut off. If you don’t hold pressure down right on the spring you will have a huge slinky race out when you take the nut off. Idk what gives here. Could probably get it back running right for $150-$200 (I would replace other common wear items also) but I would like to get her something with a little longer barrel.
Good to hear a couple positive reviews of the sx4 20. I have that gun easily accessible and it seems like a great option
Gotta live up to the nickname...

I bought a CZ 20 guage mallard for my wife. I liked the idea of the simplicity of the double triggers, but one trigger is much rougher and heavier than the other. I love it, but Cindy couldn't get used to it.

Everything the left touches it destroys

Picked up the sx4 compact for her this afternoon. She shot three boxes of shells through it this evening at clays and she did great with it. Very very low recoil, much easier for her to load and operate, and it fits her great. Also out of 75 shots with 7/8 oz target reloads we had no malfunctions or jams which is actually rare in my experience with a brand new gun as there is a break in period. I’m impressed with it so far. Can’t wait to throw some tss waterfowl reloads in it and see how it patterns them. glad she likes it you might like Hornady one shot lube and cleaner with dry lube hose the carbon out every few hundred rounds it doesn't get sticky like many clean and lube products my 1100 would gum up and have function issues one season it got cold quick dropped to about 10 overnight. I would hit the bolt release and it would close in slow motion , all I had with at the time was hoppes #9 I cleaned and lubed it with just that at lunch and it ran well the rest of weekend.
