I think I started using for staking in deep water for muskrat about 1995, I can't remember where I brought them. Does anybody remember who made them, and are they still available?
I would use 14 ga wire, slide it down thru the eye then wrap it around the end, then put it in the setter, bend it over and stick in the bottom. When ready to pull, just grab the wire and the piece would bend in the middle to a u shape, and pull out. then you could just bend it back straight and reuse. Use 2 of them for a drowning set for coon.

I still have a box full of those disposables. I think they were called E Z stakes.

Beav:

Believe your right on the name, got an area where they would come in handy and can't find them. They were the cats-meow for trapping out of a boat, and the shelf drop fast, and deep.

Son of a gun! I have a bunch of those my dad used before he died. I knew they were some sort of staking thing but I think I'll pull 'em out this year and give 'em a try.

T-man is the best. Lol

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

Those E-Z stakes were the greatest thing trapping out of a flat bottom boat. The area I was trapping back then only had a shelf about 10 inches, then fell off to deep water. I took the setting rod, cut the T handle off drilled a hole in the end of a old garden hoe handle, put the rod in, and then epoxy it in, had a setter I could reach 6 ft down. Push it in then pull up to set it just like todays anchors. I think 14 ga wire was the largest I ever used. Used electric fence wire for muskrats.
