There are plenty of them here in the grocery stores. Maybe it's a transportation problem. Mt Olive is only about 25 miles away. Thanks ! There are shortages again in the Grocery stores up here. Toilet Paper, Paper towels, Juices, even hard to get canned Peaches. Prices have gone way up. $26.00 for a whole Chicken !

I don't doubt nationwide shortages. Most companies can't find help. I've owned my own business in a textile and tobbaco county for 21 years. Looks like I will be shutting down at the end of the year. Have been trying to hire 3 people at 15 dollars an hour for 3 months. Haven't gotten one applicant. I was in my thirties before I made 15 dollars an hour. Sad times.

Dang that's a shame. Crazy no young people would be interested in a job like that. Sounds pretty simple.

My big question is, "Where does Mt Olive get it's cucumbers in the winter time?"
Please don't say from the cucumber tree.
Imagine they're grown hydroponically.

VA sorry to hear your sad news about trying to hire people. I really hope you are able to keep your business alive. I run a small sawmill on our Tree Farm, sawing up our own timber. For two years (a couple years ago) I ran a “Help Wanted” advertisement in the Penn College forestry program, and in the school’s employment listings. I offered $15 an hour to teach 1-2 forestry program students/ paid interns how to select a tree for felling, how to fell it properly, buck it to correct log lengths, limb and top the log, skid it out of the woods, get it on the sawmill, turn it into highest quality lumber possible, grade the lumber the log produced, and get the resulting products to market. All my friends who run businesses in Northcentral PA told me no one would contact me, and they were correct. Absolutely zero students anywhere, let alone in the forestry program, contacted me. I counted myself lucky to find anyone just for summertime employment. Whether this is a signal about young Americans in general, or about general payment and income expectations, or some other factor none of us could afford to even think about when I was growing up, I don’t know. All I know is the employees my friends have are held onto tightly.

We can only buy about 60% of what we want to buy when we go to Krogers or Walmart for groceries now. I went to TSC to buy dog food on Monday and they were out of the 3 store brands and all the other brands of cheaper to normal priced dog food. I dont think the more local stores are getting many deliveries. We have about a 40 minute round trip to get to the nearest Kroger or Walmart and back.
Diane is going to drive to a bigger city tomorrow to see if she can get what we need and want.
Keith Keith, I would look at your local bulk food store for human food. My local bulk food store has done a decent job of keeping shelves filled throughout the pandemic. I am sure regular grocery stores have better prices though.

I would load up the truck with coolers and do a month worth of shopping somewhere else! I'll admit prices are way up...but???? At walmart, right now: Perdue Fresh Whole Chicken with Giblets (5-6.5 lbs.) $6.24, $1.04/lb The savings on one whole chicken should pay for the gas shopping else where!
Let's go Brandon!

Sometimes a local lady goes to the chicken plant in timberville, VA with a full size van and picks up chicken legs and thighs.

Saw chicken leg quarters for 5 something a ten pound bag a couple days ago. Can buy pork butt (shoulder) whole for less than two a pound. Cut the boneless part into steak, fillet off the rest and grind it. Make sausage out of it or a couple three small roasts. Inflation is horrible but I just bought a beef for three dollars a pound hanging weight and that includes custom processing . Its not hard to buy a chicken for less than 26 bucks. Have not had problems buying whatever I want either. Ammo is still nuts but almost anything you want is still available

I live in Mt Olive. I responded last time you asked. No, the pickle company is going strong. Green season just ended. They buy cucumbers in the summer and soak them in huge vats outside. They have bought every warehouse in town and built a couple huge warehouses. Pickle trucks are rolling as we speak. The relish is cucumbers that get run over by the forklifts. Don't eat it.
Forgiveness is just a prayer away.
