I read an article in FFG many years ago about a guy in Florida who used beer-soaked corn for his trap line for coon. Has anyone else used this? What did you like/dislike about it? Looking for an economical change up bait for my dp line this fall.

Fill Gatoraid bottles two thirds full of corn. I have been adding Hog Wild attractant mixed in but cherry coolaid mix will work fine also. Add water, let ferment for a few days and put it in your DP's. Works great. Leave the lid loose to allow for expansion.

I read about using corn/grape koolaid/ water to use for a mix for coon feeders. (Coon feeders to draw coon to train hound pups). I made one up and monitored it for the next 3 months and nothing ate that corn!
I didn't add sugar as wolfdog's post said... wonder if that could have been the difference?

It probably did, without the sugar the corn didn't ferment and I can't imagine unsweetened Koolaid would be overly attractive to them. Oh I think the corn fermented. Sugar speeds the fermentation process but it isn't needed to ferment corn. Corn has enough natural sugar to ferment on it's own.

Why would you even have to set a trap for them? I would think you could just pick them up after they pass out!
If coon were feeding on corn in corn field, I found corn didn't work very good for bait. Marshmallows, cat food, etc. was better. But, this "doctored" corn makes sense. I think they become addicted to the stuff once they taste it.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.
