I don't think Elon owns Bitcoin himself. That big purchase was by Tesla which is a publicly traded company.
Yes. I edited my post to reflect this. While Musk has a mammoth amount of control over Tesla (many CEO of publicly traded co's do not) I should have been more specific to Tesla's BTC not Musk personal holdings, if any.

If governments can't regulate its fluctuations, or tax its profits, why would we assume it will ever be a legal tender in any country. Imagine if a barrel of oil was tied to Bitcoin. How would transportation possibly budget their business? How would you operate any business that used fuel? How would you bid on contracts if you had no way to hedge the currency swings? C'mon man. Crypto profits are capital gains, though I would assume the people mining it might might have some fancy accounting to determine the tax liabilities. El Salvador has basically made Bitcoin their official currency. "Normal" currencies fluctuate all the time.

If bitcoin remains extremely volatile like it has been it won't make it a viable medium of exchange for the masses
