I am changing out CDR springs, and it sure is easy to remove them.

Putting the new ones on, however, has me spitting and swearing.

Ive been using levers wired to the trap and all kinds of crazy ideas and contraptions that mostly aren’t working out too well. I managed to get one set on after better than an hour of contriving and tweaking, but clearly i need some help here. Anyone have any tricks, special tools, or advice?

Thanks for any help!

I'm curious what the issue is you having with changing the springs? My CDRs are almost 20 years old and haven't even thought about Changing springs on them.

I’m with Sniper on this...my CDRs are still very strong no need to replace springs.

Yeah my old ones are all good and strong but i had some that someone had done some welding on and ruined the springs, and a few that had weak springs for some reason or another, i was not original owner of all of them.
Ive been managing to get them on using half of a one hand setter and a lot of elbow grease, but I would love to know how the builders put them on. I can envision a special tool that would do it, but i have not built one yet.

Can you post a picture of where you are having the hang up?

Its just that the springs are in such strong tension to get the bolts through. Youd have to change one to truly appreciate the difficulty. Come on, take one of those nuts off, pull that bolt, and then try to get the spring back on, i dare you.
And if it do it without difficulty please tell me how!

Can’t tell from a picture and have never handled one but I would think if ya had the pan off put the pin through the relaxed spring then the nut then work the tag end of the spring to its anchor point then replace the pan
Just spitballing here. Good luck.

Thanks for the thought. Unfortunately with the CDR it doesn’t work like that. Since you have not handled one, you will just have to trust me.

Moral of this story: If you ever need CDR springs changed out, pay someone else to do it, lol.

Just give me one thing, that I can hold on to. To believe in this livin' is just a hard way to go.
