I got pre exposure shots about 6 yrs ago. Required for school. Side effects were minimal other than sore arm on the last two shots (series of three.) I needed to get a booster shot 2 yrs later as my titers were low and I havent checked since. I would say 15 to 20 percent of my class needed a booster at that time.
My insurance at the time did not cover it...I checked with 3 different places to get them done and they were somewhere around $330 to $750+ per shot... the place that was $330 has since been bought out by the place that $750. To me it seemed like a good chunk of change for a broke student that tried to be financially responsible.

I got my first one some where in 1990s?? Pretty sure have had two boosters? So having seen this post the other day. When I went in to get my flu shot. I ask the nurse about my rabies vac. She of course couldn't recommend anything but did look it up in my file. Said I had my last booster in 2002. She also said that her husband was vaccinated for his job. She didn't say what that was. But said she thought the booster was 10 year thing?? So she said I needed to talk to my doctor about it.
I do recall asking about a booster when I was dealing with cancer . Doctor didn't even want me getting flu shot during all that. After that mess furs been so low value I have messed with enough skunks to worry about it. I'm going to ask my doctor about a booster before my insurance runs out end of the year.
That's what I know about that.
To the original question I've never had even sore arm from the rabies vac.

Mac, when you have blood work done, get your titer checked. That will tell you if you need a booster or not. I know folks who had the pre-exposure series 30 years ago and their titer is still good. Bur I just got a booster because my titer was low.

When I got the booster in 02 I recall my doctor saying. Titer test was pretty close to same price as shot. So did I want just get booster not pay for test. Then possibly the shot too. Said booster wouldn't hurt to do so I just did it that way.
When I was still working I used to have the doctor run whole big hazmat panel on me. The department did that for hazmat guys every year. So I told my doctor I wanted it too as insurance paid it.
But that just me and all them test didn't benefit me any when I did get cancer. Just way world works.

I had that shot 15 ears or so ago and other than wagging my tail when I smell steak there have been zero side effects.
