According to some gay people I know, it's absolutely a choice. Knew one girl that was a lesbian for years and then one day decided she was going to be straight and has been ever since. Married with several kids now. Always dressed like a man, even wearing a neck tie at work instead of a scarf that the women wore that worked there.

So at least some people make a conscious choice to be gay and/or transgender.

I'm not ruling out that some people might have some wires crossed in their mind. Like Savell pointed out, that's what pedophiles claim. Maybe it's true. But, if that's the case then the world needs to be acknowledging that they have a mental condition, not celebrating them as heroes and forcing the rest of the world to accept their mental delusions as "normal".

Your probably correct about not mocking the individual but I don't believe they are all born that way. But as with other sins they can choice to act on it. And society can chose whether they want to embrace such actions as ok and normal. History has and will again prove whether such moral deviation weakens or strengthens a society.

Yes it is a choice. Every path we take after we slide out into this world is a choice.

Aye, it doesnt matter what state your from in this day and age, youre
gonna have a "gem" here and there as we may say. Probably multiples.
Most places, even the liberal/liberal-leaning areas/cities, are only a stones-
throw away from farming, hunting, trapping, fishing, shooting, fermenting, etc, etc.

Who someone grows up to be is a combination of nature and nurture. I believe that some prey on people who are vulnerable because of a bad relationship. People take comfort where they find it. Depending on their intentions it is no different than a destructive heterosexual relationship. Never underestimate what a predator is capable of.
