I heard due to the covid most of China's fur manufactures are shut down. And this Is just the start of the selling season.

You all act surprised. NAFA goes belly up, FHA sells everything for nothing except enough to cover their payroll and utility bills and now one of the largest buyers in the world goes belly up and for some reason it is a shock. China has been running this fur industry for years. China man pulled GFW's check book. It should surprise no one who was paying attention. Some are living in a fairy tale reality, It Is Over. Lots of tentacles for sure and some are much longer then others. We have had almost two decades where the cost of borrowing money was almost nothing and inflation has been very low, this has allowed us to keep labor costs low and also farm out much of what we use and produce. What if we have a couple of decades of higher wages, higher interest rates and higher costs of goods, services and living? With most posting on here doing OK and complaining what must it be like for the majority of our citizens that don't have two good oars and a boat that does not leak? If we move into a more basic needs life style where it is food, housing, energy and clothing we will put even more money into the coffers of the few real huge firms that control those basic needs. Even in rural America farmers can not legally repair their own John Deere equipment, farmers can not clean and keep or sell most seeds, major packers take contracted livestock and poultry before the free market stuff, so we think this is only a metro issue? In fact much of rural America unfortunately is under the control of fewer entities then the rest of the country.

LLL Surprise surprise it's like Larry said it been coming warning signs big( EMS) 2 things could be happening 1) setting up for some to clip coupons 2) market for certain high value fur (western coyote at half value of last year ) going even througher south than last coming to a state near you . My thoughts when you see the rats leaving the ship pay attention. Might look for a life prevser. Red

This a really good way to really lower the coon harvest for sale. With FHA being one of the few major collectors, there will be a lot of trappers not bothering to put up coon with the cost of doing that just so buyers can buy put up fur for couple dollars more then put up costs, let alone running a line. Groenwold's has been a very good market for a major portion of the country for fur in the grease, especially coons and if that market is limited or comes much later in the season the numbers of pelts for sale will tumble much more then anticipated. If there are that many coons in storage it will take several years for fresh goods to go up enough for harvesters to get excited.
Bryce . Too many coon isn’t the issue. If you think a short harvest is the solution IMO you are barking up the wrong tree. Right now they aren’t using any amount of coon. What could well happen if the Chinese decide to buy quantities of coin, rats whatever and don’t have a large amount to chose they’ll move on to something else like rabbit . You look at the harvest the last few years of coon and it’s basically been nothing.

For some of us...that are pushing 60 years old (I'm 57)...we have likely seen our last fur boom. Even if another stretch of decent prices comes along we are gonna be too old to pile up the fur.
Sad...is what it is.

I agree with what said about maybe reason is buy from FHA , can't get help , don't want to deal with tons green fur come in, cost the lot to run routes, maybe not worth it to them after costs, if there facility lost lot help, it wouldn't be good, I have no idea the reasons , have see what happens an what is said, never try FHA, not sure if trust it or not, when is there last receving date for what sale ? If groenwold don't run routes, not good, very few options for selling this season unless want to give them away "The global production of ranch mink was over 100 million a few years ago. This year it is expected to fall in around 12 million. This extreme culling will have a very positive effect on wild fur prices and we are optimistic it will start at our March 2022 auction. The global fur buying trade has been unable to attend live auctions for 2 years and there is no question we will have an impressive list of eager buyers wanting to attend this year." Source FHA. Both the mink production down and people possibly being allowed to attend a sale may be good news? At least for me.
