my echo weedwacker is 23 years old.still running. i run a cs500p saw with a 18"bar. its close to 10 years old now. it replaced a cs400 with a 18"bar, it went 20plus years untill it was stolen out of my truck.

Don't be sucked in by brand name. Pro model any beats home owner model any. IMO the echo pros are the best bang for the money, for the home owner. I tried getting a 352, no stock for months at my local dealer.
I'll trade traps for old saws. Running a retirement home for saws.

Bob I'm a fan of the pro model Husky saws also but here's a different way to look at answering your question call up Bailey's and ask them which saw they sell the fewest parts for ? Since they deal with a wide variety of chain saw brands it would be interesting to hear what they have to say .
The pro saws are the only way to go if you go into the lawn shops it's mainly the homeowner variety of saws offered there so they can't be much value in the smaller saws .

Over the years i have had 5 Stihl the only problem I had with them they didn't work when I wanted to work. Got an Echo 7 years ago It may fall apart today as I going to cut wood but for the 7 years I have owned it, it has not YET BEEN tuned up usually starts on by the 3 pull. Last month I had to buy the third grease gun for the nose bearing. ECHO forever sthil never. I do use wood to heat my house with so it does get used quite a bit.

What oil for the chain would you use for cutting ice? How about using vegetable oil as to not pollute the water?
I have a small electric/battery for cutting small jobs. Thought about using it for trapping rats when the ice is only 4-5 inches thick.

Many of the guy's do use the vegie oil for that reason. Get the cheap stuff from the dollar store.

Anybody own/use an Echo brand saw, and how do you like it? Good points? Bad points? Light duty or heavy duty use? Get a Husqvarna 450 Rancher. I heat with wood, 2-3 cords per year, and do the odd tree job. I'm fond of the pro types with the aggressive chains.
