When I was younger and had a lot of time to trap, I'd run around 200 water sets for mink, rats and coon. Went before dawn and returned home after dark and then put up the fur from the previous day. I'd set every single creek or feeder that I crossed. Now with the rules Wisconsin has in place about setting bridges, I couldn't do it anymore. Back then, you could set any bridge but now you need permission on every property you trap. Takes a long time to get that much permission and with the price of mink and the lack of rats, compared to the 1980's, it's not worth the effort. I'll still get about 100 sets out but it's not as easy as it used to be. I do like having all the private land I trap but it's taken 40+ years to build that line. I'll start water trapping soon but so far this season, I mainly focused on coyote.

57 years trapping. It's who I am. Every day is still as exciting as it was when I was a kid but a little more work.

There is no magic number, but I would define a long liner as, you start checking in the dark and you finish checking in the dark. If you finish checking with day light left you use it to set more traps.
