"We have talked to the parents, and all I can tell you is they didn’t want their son to talk to us and they have hired an attorney"
And the kid somehow got ahold of the gun his dad bought just 4 days ago...
Sounds like some world class parenting
Gotta live up to the nickname...

I bet the anti-gunners try to use this incident, as they have Sandy Hook and other incidents. Jim Yeah but those anti gunners would still need half wits to vote for them!

Sounds like some world class parenting Ignorant comment. You know 0 facts of what happened. Just as ignorant as this. Politics aside, 3 kids went to school yesterday and didn't come home. A lot more will never forget this. I didn't enjoy talking to my middle school aged daughter about it last night.

In Michigan, you can be criminally and civilly liable for any harm caused by a person less than 18 years of age who lawfully gains unsupervised access to your firearm if unlawfully stored. That is the first question. IF it was properly secured, did the Minor have access to that “secured” area? . . . e.g. have the combination to the safe? ect.

Sounds like some world class parenting Ignorant comment. You know 0 facts of what happened. So you're saying that this kid carrying out this horrendous shooting is in no way a reflection of the way he was raised?

Coondager. There's no telling that. I know good kids that had bad parents, and bad kids that had good parents. There are lots of factors. Without knowing anything personally, how can anyone just point the finger?

Without knowing anything personally, how can anyone just point the finger? I see where you are coming from and I appreciate the benefit of the doubt. I just think that maybe if some things would have been different for this kid he wouldn't have resorted to doing what he did. It will be interesting to see if the gun was accessible to the kid. Like SJA was saying, that could be a different charge entirely

It's sad home situation if you have to keep your gun locked up from your kids. No. It's common sense. Kids should not have free reign over the gun safe. Maybe I'm crazy for thinking this way

Without knowing this particular child’s situation, it is hard to place blame yet. That being said, until we are able to regain some sort of control of our public schools systems, I believe this problem will not be going away. We have shackled our teachers and administrators so much that they don’t even dare raise a voice to a child without fear of losing their careers. The liberal dumbing down of our school system has caused irreparable damage to many of our young people. I truly believe that the whole school experience is just as much about learning to socialize and work together as it is gaining some knowledge from a book. Once the role of disciplinarian was taken from the people who oversee all of our children, (for more hours a weekday, for 9 months of the year) than we as parents do all heck has broken loose. I have a 16 yo and some of the stories I hear make me sick to my stomach, yet nothing is done due to not wanting to rock the boat. We are very likely moving our son to a private school for a more structured last two years. My .02
