Hey all, I am curious if anyone has any advice on what I may be doing right or wrong on trying to catch my first Fisher. I am a college student in Central Wisconsin and figured while I live in the area that I should put on for a Fisher tag since it is something I’ve never tried. So far, I’ve had 7-8 coon boxes out for about 2 weeks, all in woods on the edges of different marshy areas. I’ve been using some beaver I found as bait and been using the caster from the beaver on some sets for scent, as well as a different beaver scent and a weasel scent. I’ve seemed to notice that the weasel scent must attract them, as they have been getting in and stealing the bait on those sets. So far only caught one coon, but if anyone has any advice that would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

I've found that the fisher here, just north of you in the U P move a lot they come around every 20-30 days , I have carcass piles , with cameras on them, this has been the same for years, they stick around for a few days and move

Pine trees and skunk quill at eye level is the best advice I have.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

Find softwoods with a small brook running through or a wet area, use beaver meat and pure skunk quill to get their attention. good luck.

I'm not sure what others are experiencing but Fisher numbers seem to be very low in NW Wisconsin over the last 5 years, I can't speak for the Central part of the state. Trap Setter and trapNH utilize the same approach- we predominantly set cubbies in conifer stands with skunk scent on a wick, placed in a tree behind the cubby, normally bait with beaver because it doesn't freeze as fast as other baits and sardines if temps are mild.

I’ve always had good luck around swamp, marsh areas in dense softwood meets hardwood. Those natural ridges (fingers) are what I look for
Leaning pole used to be my go to, beaver with some skunk essence

Thanks for the input, I’ll probably try moving some sets into more softwoods areas since currently I have most of them in hardwoods. Deerfly I am in the Stevens Point area

Get away from the hardwoods, set in mixed growth. If legal use conibears on running poles or in the wire cages mounted on a tree. Checkout Bob Noonan's bookand video. Best bait is beaver, and use pure skunk essence. Patience, they are not behind every tree.
