First, what is your intention in wearing them? Work, riding, dress etc...
Casual dress.

Roper is the term for low heal boots as calf ropers often dismount on the fly and it is thought that a higher heal would increase twisted ankles and such. They have short tops and are usually not overly decorated. Justin makes a great line and sponsor millions into rodeo and other riding events.
At the opposite end of the spectrum buckaroo boots have higher heals and stove pipe (tall) tops that can be highly decorated. Anymore, the rage is square toed ends and flashy tops.
All the young guys who have national titles like Yessir's nephews or my son wear that style and matching a belt with your boots is considered being stylish.

I was hoping you would chime in. I'm thinking the roper might be what I'm looking for, I like the rounded toe and the shorter heel sounds like they'd be a lot easier to walk in. I'll look at the Justins. What's your opinion of Tecovas?

Lots of boots are custom made but I never went that route. There are lots of great companies that make great quality boots that if you only wear for dress will last the rest of your life. I am partial to Ariat, Twisted X, and Luchese (Prononced Lou Casey). Jess Pope's dad is a good friend of mine and is partial to Olathes.
If you have a narrow foot the Justin or Olathe would be a great place to start and if you have a wider foot, the Ariat or Twisted X would be a good alternative

LMBO Yessir you are right. If ya wear punchy lookin footwear you might be a little safer from cactus thorns and rattlesnakes but beware of all the hot young women who will be lookin at ya like a pork chop at a barbecue cook off
