Does anyone use barrel swivels between the snare and extension to keep the loop from tweaking one way or the other. I use tubing to attach my snare to the support but sometimes the pressure from the snare twisting drives me nuts. I could use smaller tubing but then getting the wire in during really cold weather is tough. Thanks

I use barrel swivels but they're part of my snare build, not part of the snare to extension.[Linked Image]

That’s what I was thinking of. I have eight foot snares and thought I would cut them at about 5 feet and add a swivel. Does it make a difference on tweeting? Thanks

Some might say it's overkill but every little bit helps. They're reusable [Linked Image]

At one time I thought swivels on snares focused chewing on the area. I was wrong for it makes the cable easier to set.
I buy my swivels from Rally Snares in the 900 Lb range. Work great on catfish lines also.
I use rubber vacuum tubing for the wire support. It will not freeze like the plastic tubing.

Use a kill stick, you wont need a swivel.

I love barrel swivels on my dispatch snares.Yes they are starting to get expensive but are reusable they hold up well on a coyote dispatch snare especially if they are 5ft. away from the snare loop. They make it so much easer to set your snares the loop will just relax and hang straight down. No fighting the natural twist of the cable. 1x19 cable is harder to work with then 7x7 cable especially the larger sizes 5/64 & 3/32 so they benefit the most from a swivel IMO. The Snare Shop is a good source for snaring supplies I use their # 8 barrel swivel without a Failure yet? I am using a 15ft snare set up in sagebrush & juniper country. Love those swivels!!

How are tangle stakes designed, how long, just straight, how far do you drive in?

are you asking me? if so, 5' of 5/8's rebar (killpole) pounded in around 18" in frozen ground. You can use 3/4 rebar but you'll end up with some bent rebar..

I see, man I would have to haul a lot of steel, maybe a kill pole at four foot, I tried them once, they spun in our soft soil, I didn't think to add a small blade to stop it from turning

Yeah, a bit heavy for my liking to lug around the prairie. I'm working out of the back of the truck. I have a few with heavy washers welded to the bottom I use when I'm in and around sloughs, for the most part the soil here is heavy clay loam.

Short snares, 42" of cable is what I need to get a 12" loop and attached to the pole.

Tactical, and others:
Thanks for the info on the swivels. I am eager to try them for improvement over what I am using now.
Best wishes.
