You are wrong. In Iowa it is illegal for a felon to own a muzzleloader, they are considered a firearm here.

I load mine in the. Cold during season, pull the 209 primer after hunt each day and keep it in a soft case in t he cold truck or Garage. I shoot it and clean about every 5 to 7 days. This tells me or makes me confident that it would fire treating it that way while hunting.

if you can't fire it at least put some masking tape over the muzzle or a brown paper bag and rubber band and write loaded on it so you don't double load next year. but when you can it is best if you get it sighted in and clean it proper or it may well not go off next year for you.

It's best to put a witness mark on your ramrod so you don't accidentally double charge.

Yup! That’s what we teach in hunter education

Since you were too busy to sight it in before you started hunting, I'd fire off a bunch of rounds sighting it in and THEN clean it real good before putting it away for the season.

You can shoot your muzzleloader on public hunting area after the season closes.
