I'm on a nuisance beaver job on a small clear water pond. The lodge is small and has several runs that I can easily see. The problem is that the runs come out under the root systems of 2 large trees and are extremely wide. It is too deep to get in front of the runs, but I'm able to drop 330s down on h-stands. I have only picked up a year old beaver on a foothold. I believe the beaver can just go around my traps. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you, Mitch

No showing him how to set multiples in the entrance run-doesnt have to be winter. Most entrance runs in beaver houses are wide enough for two sometimes 3 traps. And you can set a couple in series also to clean up.
He said the entrance run was wide.

Theres gotta be other places where they are coming up onto land, I would look for those. Especially since they are a lot easier to set.

Den entrance set is paydirt,.Not only for cleaning out the beaver, but one of the deadly go to sets to take the educated last nuisance beaver in summer. That and the dam break which can also be set with multiple traps for multiple catches in one check.

The runs are around 4 to 5 feet wide. I did drop a couple traps side by side like boco is suggesting. I thought about dropping some sticks down to try to fence it off, but was thinking they would just chew them out? I do have some footholds out where they have been exiting to feed. They do not have a dam. I wish it would freeze so I could get right above the entrances like that. The h-stands end up being over a foot under water.

Unless the sticks are green that's not an issue, though they may try to through them out of the run if they dont hit the traps first

If the water is too deep for the metal stands you can wire an extension pole on one arm,or use poles for tee pee sets side by side.
We always used poles before Arthur started making his 5 foot stands.

I think I'll try fencing it off with dead sticks from the lodge. That's a great idea boco. I like that a lot better than dunking my arm all the way down. Thank you!

I took a bunch of pictures last year of some nuisance beaver colonys that I wiped out,to show what to feel for when looking for entrance runs under water. We always feel for the sharp bank at each side. Most are quite wide-wide enough to easily set 3 or 4 traps side by side-a lot less work and much more productive than trying to fence it off for just one trap.

This main entrance here would have ben under 4+ feet of water before I cleaned them out and returned the water to natural flow.
