Be careful what you wish for. I trap 50 to 100 most years just in my yard. They are destructive little buggers

I wonder if our over abundant owl and hawk population isn't what is hurting our small animal population like weasels, mink and muskrat. I've only seen one mink in my life.

yep. need to go back to the days when everybody shot them on sight. (Raptors) 40 years ago you could limit out on rabbits in any hedgerow in ks without walking over a half mile or so. sometimes quail too killing birds from multiple coveys. not over harvesting.

no till farming, atrazine, and pesticides haven't done small game any favors. insect population is way down. so big eating size frogs are scarce, so are scissor tail birds. prairie chickens were abundant around here 40 years ago too. all gone .

another reason is high coon, skunk, and possum numbers. nobody coon hunts anymore cause to many people get upset enough to involve L.E. when a dog crosses the fence at 11 pm. low fur prices aint helping any

Wildlife and parks just wants to rent camper spaces at the reservoirs and sell deer turkey and spoonbill tags. money money money. no interest in wildlife . time for ks to refuse to enforce federal restrictions on raptor killing. the reality is the state wants their share of the fine revenue.

Mink are one of my most favorite animals to trap, used to catch them when I lived up in NE. I used to set for them here in Kansas a little and did catch a few down on the south fork of the solomon river. Only ever saw one up here on the north fork. Don't even set for them anymore here. I remember one summer building fence up in the NE Sandhills, drove by this one spot daily that I just knew would be a great mink spot. Opening day came and I set a duke 1.5, next day had a nice little buck mink. Cool little critters. I would guess weasels might have the same effect but may never find out living here, ha.
