That's something, but I've seen that lake ice mowing over homes and whatnot. That would be scary! I can't remember what it's called, any of you experienced that?

The ice at breakup makes a mess nearly every year on the shore of most larger lakes. It will uproot trees, push buildings off their foundations, and pile up in huge windrows that take weeks to melt away. The little lake I grew up on was only about 40 acres and it would mess up docks and damage boathouses, etc. If the wind is strong it can get some steam behind it. If the weather was just right, the ice would get real soft before it could blow up on shore......it would "honeycomb". It decays and turns into long(length depends on thickness of the ice when it gets soft) octagonal shaped rods that look like honeycomb when viewed from above. It's rather neat looking when it does that. It rarely lasts long in that honeycomb state. It isn't destructive when it honeycombs, it just goes to mush when it is pushed against anything.

Lake effect snow is no joke. I used to haul out of Erie PA several times a month. Seen snow like that in WY . Western KS/NE too but not in about 30 years for KS/NE.
