Saw a Bear last January. Guess they get hungry and venture out.

Interestingly enough, this one walked up to the bird feeder but never touched it or the suet basket. I did do a walk around most of the buildings though to make sure he wasn't holed up in the garage or something.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I would put that bear in the class of "suspected rabies" since it is one of the symptoms that is expected. To wake up pre-maturely from hibernation.

In that case nobody better go in the northern Minnesota woods. I find it common to run across multiple bear tracks thru the winter here. Bears are not hibernaters in the true sense of the word.

Black bears are not true hibernators. They wake up constantly through out the winter to feed. Males are known to sleep in falls downs, root balls. There was one found in an Bald Eagle nest. I would highly doubt that critter has rabies. I would imagine it's tummy rumbled and went out looking for a mid winter snack.

If this one doesn't leave me alone and stay away he WILL be a true hibernator......forever.

black bears get up and travel in the winter all the time...they just don't go to sleep for 4 months....If the wolves would have found it.....it would be poop in 3.2.1...

Had a bear a few years ago in mid-January eat a bag of dog food and bird seed off the front porch.

I am not sure if the wolves would mess with a bear. Maybe?

One of the researchers with collared wolves found that they attached a 2 year old bear and consumed it, there was lots of snowshoeing involved to see why the solid dots were in one spot.
