It almost always is pure torture for me to listen to it being sung. In particular by those that need to slow it down "and make it their own". If I had my way a military band would aways play it and forget the dang singers...

Ok, done ranting, play game!

You should listen to Jennifer Nettles sing it.

I know I can be simple minded at times but I sure don't sit in front of an NFL game and expect patriotism.

I kinda liked hers. She belted it out with all she had in her. She coulda done the spittin and the crotch grabbin a bit better, but all in all, it weren't bad as some I've witnessed.

The National Anthem should always be about the country, not the singer. I loathe the howling, hold the note singers, who desecrate the anthem.

I may be prejudiced as I played sax in a really good high-stepping college marching band. Our director had once been a navy band director and conducted us the same I think.

The best version I ever heard was at the Minnesota state high school wrestling tournament many years ago. Each session a choir group from different schools around the state would sing it to start things off. On this particular session it was a single female soloist from one of the high schools. I don't think she had been prepared to preform in front of 10,000 fans. She got started ok but part way through she froze and went silent. The crowd didn't miss a beet and sang with her at a high volume to finish. It was actually fantastic and one of my fondest memories..

I have to go with Whitney Houston, use that version at our softball games still.
As per Jennifer Nettles, prefer to listen to geese honk to that noise.
