IMO if Nebraska ever did try to re-introduce wolves it would not be a good thing due to all the available food sources (cattle deer, etc), they would be better off trying to keep them out IMO.They need to take a good hard look at the wolf numbers VS deer numbers in northern Wisconsin and or how hard/back and forth it is to manage said wolves due to anti's, courts, petitions, ETC.. before making any decisions.

I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other, but what would be wrong with bringing them back here? They were native to Nebraska, and we had them all the way up until the early 1900s. As long as they were managed, what harm would it cause to reintroduce a native species? The wolves native to Nebraska no longer exist. They are gone for multiple reasons. There is no 'reintroduction' of native wolves, but would be 'introduction of an invasive species.' Canadian 'timber wolves' are not the same sub species that were indigenous to the states they have been forced upon. Do your research. There is NO ROOM for wolves in Nebraska. Charlie

As long as they were managed, what harm would it cause to reintroduce a native species? Native to that geographic location maybe, but take a look around. There is nothing similar to the habitats and prey species that they were once native to. Once you've restored the vast native prairie and great buffalo herds, top it off with a wolf introduction. And as far a management, just look at the debacles going on everywhere else they have been reintroduced.

As long as they were managed, what harm would it cause to reintroduce a native species? You’d maybe talk to the people in MT and ID. Be careful what you wish for. “Managed properly” would mean waiting until the problem was bad enough that populations of ungulates were being decimated. Then, restrictions on trapping anything in areas where they may reside will be enacted by anti trappers. There’s no good in a wolf.

$4000 sounds steep for the mount.
You guys wishing for wolves in Nebraska, take a look at WI,MN and MI. It's a 3 ring circus trying to get and keep seasons to manage them. They are a problem and can't get a season or take enough of them to make a difference.

Reintroduce them in California. They seem to have a good handle on managing apex predators…… Good idea. If they are going to make the decisions they should live with them. I don't think the mt.lions eating hikers has taught them a thing.

Canadian 'timber wolves' are not the same sub species that were indigenous to the states they have been forced upon. I agree. I don't think that thing looked like most "buffalo wolves" of circa 1800-1850 when they were first documented by Euro-Americans in a semi-scientific way. I don't think even old infamous WWI era "Dakota Three Toes" looked like that. But wnd when they finally caught him after raiding stock for over a decade, D3T weighed about the same as this NB wolf.

I am surprised they let him keep it??? Please explain what you mean by "it looks like a hybrid" thanks........jk It has a mesaticephalic skull, which is a fancy way of saying it has a medium sized head rather than a proportionately larger head like a wolf would have. It has way to much forehead to be a pure wolf. Wolves' skulls are much flatter. The limbs seem way to short for a wolf and the feet are to small. The body is to short. The coat looks wrong. In my opinion, it's probably a low wolf genetics, dog hybrid. Keith

I didn't feel qualified to say so being I have never trapped or seen a live wolf up close.

Wolves can vary a lot, just like people I see a lot of wolves each year too me it looks like a wolf.Last month I saw one that had the markings of a Husky in the face to a T,just saying all wolves do not look the same there is no clone wolf machine out there. What ever it was it doesn't belong there,it's dead which surprised me that they dispatched it and the trapper was able to keep it.Good for him,for people that want wolves in their back yard, after a month or less they would change their mind!!!!!It would be nice to release 500 right outside of the twin cities and 1000 to be released in California big cities area's they would change their views quickly. The wolf is a awesome predator and has a place on this planet, but everything needs to be managed.

I have absolutely no doubt, that wolves freely breed with domestic dogs, the same as coyotes do, especially on the edges of their range, where it's harder to find a pure wolf mate.
Research has proven that the color black in wolves came from domestic dogs. Any wolf population with black wolves in it is actually a population of hybrid animals, not pure wolves. I doubt in areas where wolves and dogs come into contact frequently, that there are any pure wolves. There may be no pure wolves on the planet.
