My trapping buddy, neighbor caught a 75 pound wolf 10 miles north of where we live in central Nebraska. shocked

He had Game and Parks come look at (in disbelief) and they took a tissue sample for DNA testing.

The good news is IT'S DEAD. The great news is He gets to keep it. grin

OH, He caught it in a #3 Bridger. eek

That is a trophy! If he is married he probably is already negotiating for a mount!

He checked around and a mount would cost around $4000. Said he wanted to get it tanned. smile

Dang that is cool! Not cool for livestock producers and the big game population, but definitely cool in its own way.

Thanks for sharing, guessing it was a 3 year possibly 2 year old,a transit SP wolf wonder where it came from.A year and a half ago there was a wolf that was collared in MI after tracking it to where it was killed it had traveled more than 1900 miles since it had been collared as a crow flies it was killed about 400 miles from where it had been collared.

Be my luck, if I ever caught one, it would prolly be wearing a collar, and have a big rub all the way around it’s neck!

Wonder if it came from WY,CO,MT,SD,MN,WI or MI.I would have thought a full body mount would be more like 2000 to 2500,it will look good tanned or a rug would be nice also.

I caught my fist one this year, nice male and had to release it due to our current laws. It sure would have looked nice on my wall.

It looks like it's a domestic dog/wolf hybrid from the skull shape. Do the claws look like they have been trimmed?

I think so too... but others in the know have weighed in

On the mount, that price is double what it should be.

I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other, but what would be wrong with bringing them back here? They were native to Nebraska, and we had them all the way up until the early 1900s. As long as they were managed, what harm would it cause to reintroduce a native species?

Nebraska farmers and ranchers raise "cattle" and "calves". Wolves eat them. Coyotes are bad enough.
