So you're asking trappers to NOT sell their fur... but you're selling yours? I'm not selling a thing this year. Sounds like you're part of the problem your suggesting others (not you) fix.....

I sold my fur. FREEDOM! I love that Mel Gibson line. My Scottish genes wrangle and get all goosy bumped ever time I watch it. Course, John Wallace was quartered and all 4 pieces sent to the ends of the Isle to intimidate people. But yull not git me lad. I'll sill me furs I will.

Well not really, but all the talk about the trucker convoy in Canada and now in the states Why not protest. No not drive around with fur hanging off trucks or blocking roads but to make a point of fair commerce. The trapper is the only one in the whole circle of fur not making a dime this year. The buyers, the auction houses, the brokers, fur dressers, manufactures are all making a buck. Everyone but the trapper has some control of the business by paying or charging so they can profit. This is the perfect year to not sell fur until we get the market moving up, no supply will create at least some more demand and maybe a bit of profit. The ranchers went under for the most part and there still is a demand not as big but they are buying just not paying. They need to pass the rate hike on to the final consumer so we can at least break even. For me I did trap some and will take the last of my fur to the auction in Wy Mt and ID all ready sent some to Colorado but I will put a minimum on it. If I don't sell I'm not going broke and have a chance next year. I've never held on to fur from one season to the next, but for those that have, what was the outcome? I've never saw anyone post that they made extra dollars by hanging on to it from one season to the next. A good idea or not?

I have a freezer full. Thinking of having a bonfire. Have friends over. Serious.

Prospects of fur selling high next year are dismal so holding onto fur probably won't help you any plus if the freezer goes out it's all lost. Can't force a market to be there, producing a product no one wants or needs means your not going to get much for your product be it fur, timber, wheat or whatever.

It might work to your advantage to hold on to it the market changed faster than it does. But all signs point to recovery still being in the distant future.

If you can get rid of it do it. If not, head to Danny's and add to the bonfire.

I sell mine as well, but there is a whole lot less of it this year. This was “laid back take it easy” year for me.

Mark June, If I can't make money on my fur, why should I let somebody else make money on it? The animals are dead and aint coming back alive either way.

I'm not telling you what to do danny. And not judging either. Not my intent. I was simply saying what I won't do.

I have had onto fur for several years stored properly and did just as well as fresh goods. No difference in price. Skin and flesh. Wash with woolite in a bucket, Rinse. Then put in bucket with woolite and a couple cap fulls of bleach. I soak mine in the cold overnight then rinse next morning. Hang to drip dry only. Roll flesh out and vacuum seal. Label and freeze. I have held stuff for five years with no problem. Air is your enemy. Vacuum seal well. Now with all that said, if your freezer goes out, you lose it all. Get a freezer alarm to prevent this. It's all a gamble. best of luck.

Danvee, it's just like Commercial fishing were getting the same prices as we did 25 years ago but fuel, trucking ,gear just keeps going up. I hate to say it but soon the only fish your going to be able to buy with be imported . Do you know the price or have a contract price before you fish? We are usually asked to trap on speculation. Hard way to conduct a business.

BTLowry, except its not income if cost to produce exceeds the selling price.
