A post re: bullit shortage got me thinking last night. Why is it if a guy puts by 100 quarts of tomatoes and tomatoe juice, same sweet corn, green beans, salsa, bean soup, peas, extra flour and rice. A whole beef a whole hog, a whole deer canned and frozen. He is called well prepared. But now the same guy also puts buy 5000 rounds of ammo for each gun he has, he is a hoarder, because his neighbors can't find the ammo they want at the local jap store? And it's the fault of the neighbor hoarding. Just something that crossed my mind. Case.

If you have something I DON'T want - you're just being prepared. If you have something I DO want and I can't get it - you're a selfish hoarder.

now if you collected those 5K round over a few years when there was no shortage. oh wait , your still a hoarder if you have it and they want it.
and in a sea of nothing but Canadian and Quebec flags some see a Swastika and stars and bars on every street corner because it is convenient to them to say they see it.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Don't know about swastikas or stars n bars, but I do have Old Glory up most days weather permitting. I posted last week on one of wolfdogs threads about coming across a pristine yellow box big red X Winchester ammo. .32 long colts still had original price. I think it was 3.65 box of 50. A lot of my starting stuff is older but when Hillary was gonna run I hit it hard. Probably hundred bucks a week for six, seven months. Good quality American brass stuff. Every cal. I own. Was no shortages then, but I knew what was coming if she got in office. I wasn't gonna get caught with my pants down. I load several loads so I got a store of powder, primers also. Box of .223 was 4 bucks n change, 22lr 7 bucks n change per brick. Win. Shot shells 4 bucks. Learned young to look ahead to see what is today.

Work retail during bad weather season and you can see who's prepared vs who's a hoared very easily Gotta say that's one example I never thought of. Bet it gives you a different prospective on things.

The people who prepped and are prepared are always extremely laid back and polite. Usually picking up small stuff. An example is when the last hurricane hit. Eveyone who wasn't prepared was coming in screaming and shouting just being rude all all to get generators and anything related. Most had no clue what they where buys and haut bout random connections plugs ect. Didn't care just a pack of panicked animals. All the prepared people ,if they even came in where uslayu just casually waking around getting this or that or say things like " hay I know your real busy but when you get a chance could you help me with _" You can look at how someone walks into the store and generally see how there gonna act

Prepping is being prepared to survive in emergency/long term survival situations by having knowledge, tools, food, water, shelter or rhe ability to quickly get them.
Hoarding is mostly irrational behavior. Buying items en masse out of panic or refusing to throw away things that have no practical value for purely emotional reasons. I think Sniper has an excellent description. Some others along same line are good also. Best without any political comments. Sound question, good answer= helpful Don LaFountain MTA V.P.

Difference is those things you listed are for survival. Yea some may say you need ammo. But ammo isn't in the things listed for man to survive .FOOD. clothing and shelter.
5000 rds of each caliber. Ask yourself will you EVER use or NEED that many. If the answer is no than yes that's hoarding. Some may disagree but use logical thinking. You have a 270 you deer hunt with. 3,4 heck you suck at shooting 10 rds per year . What you need 5,000 rds for ? If you sight in a new rifle yes more rds needed. BUT 5.000 ? That 100 rds per year for 50 years. If Russia invades you won't live long enough to shoot that many PLUS the weight of carrying them will get you killed.
If you plink 22's then yea keep them on hand. BUT when you break down the numbers 5,000 is a TON of shooting
