Nice job. Really enjoyed it. If you ever get names of the people. Who was the guy in bib overalls and red shirt?? That man had some guns on him. He was caring a whole hog on his shoulders. Good Lord laugh

We always did our own very much the same. Usually about 4-5 of us and wives would cut and wrap and also stuff the sausage casings etc. I always butcher my own deer also cant see paying for that. We did our beef also in cold weather and hung them in the barn to age before cutting up.

Thanks for the Photo's Wolfdog, it really brings to mind how much we are changing in a short time. Hopefully the next generation that's very concerned about "locally produced" will want to learn some of this (or relearn)!

Thanks for bringing this up. I didn't see it the first time around. I butcher my own hogs part of the time. Corral my boy to help. He's about your age, born in '98. We also do our own deer, and a couple dozen chickens every year.

You otta get your kinfolk together and have a hog killen again. Way things are going you might have to just to eat. Looks like everyone had a good time. Nice pictures

Enjoyed those pictures Wolfdog. I kill a couple hogs, but am a one man show so I don’t do the scald and scrape. That looks like it would be a mighty fun and community building day. I took my second to last slab of bacon out of the smoker this evening so hog killing time will be coming soon as it gets cold enough at our house

Great pics, we still butcher 5-6 every year. We have the locker kill and scald them though. We then get together at my brother in laws house and work them up, make liver sausage and cook down the lard.

We made cane syrup too! When I was way younger, only have extremely faint memories though. We had the whole shabang too. Cane crusher , bricked up cooking shack, really we had a whole shed type deal just for it
