I’m dealing with a tough female in a pond now.
She’s like a ghost.
Caught the male the first night in a 330 150 yards from the lodge. Luckily it was a multi-species job. Took 8 otter and 12 rats over the next week. No sign of the last beaver. I unplugged the overflow pipe through the dam and left for 5 days. Went back and she had plugged it. I set 2 CDR’s at the pipe and made a castor mound on the dam 6 days ago. She hasn’t tried to plug the pipe again.
Frustrating.
The squirrel rifle may have to come into play……….

Been trapping a 1.5acre pond for 3 weeks. Finally snared the female today. Took the male in a 330 the first check. The female avoided anything I touched. Wouldn’t come near a castor mound set. Changed den locations every time I blocked entrances with 330’s. Had a cdr at the overflow pipe, which is fenced off. She wouldn’t repair the break I made, but she added mud and sticks to all the rest of the dam. On the last den I found, I blocked one run with a 330, used a snare in the other. Hardest time I’ve had catching one. Figured, little pond, not much walking, couple days, I’ll be done. Didn’t go as planned.

That’s cool Cliff!
Snare in a den entrance. Lodge entrances are deep in this pond.
Pups are developing in females. I think that it restricts their movement some as well.
Best case scenario is always to wack her the first night, just doesn’t always happen that way!!

With current gas prices.....hope the drive to the pond isn't far.....gonna be some empty trap check days. Will eat up any profits from that job.

I got paid for every check, got a “bounty” on each beaver. Didn’t make much, but I didn’t fix someone else’s problem for free. Plus I keep the beaver. Hide, tail, castors, oil sacs, meat, I got a use for all of it.
