Hello yall! I have a location at the corner of my land that is a pinch point between two wooded ridges. Trail cam video confirms the sign i found of coyote, fox, coon, opossum, and skunk.

I set a DP there and caught 3 coons in 5 nights. I pulled the DP and put 2 coyote sets in about 50 yrds apart (dirt hole and a flat set as a sign post) at either end of the pinch point. So far no hits, but its only been 2 days. The DP was only about 15 yrds from one of the coyote sets. Would you put the DP back in there and have 3 traps within 50yrds? Does a caught coon spook coyote? Or would he come in for a defenseless meal? Im new to trapping and really need to get the coyotes off my land to protect my livestock, deer and turkey. So if i had the choice, id rather get the yotes but i also hate to pass up what is likely a sure thing for at least another coon.

All advice welcomed.
Thanks!

I would set it. If you catch another raccoon it might attract your coyotes. If that happens you'll have sets waiting for them.

Gang set it if its good enough. Patience on the song dogs as they cover alot of ground and it may take time to make their rounds.

Im a nerd for statistics and record info from all my trail cams about all pertinent species. Tedious but very informative. At this location, the yotes show up for 3-4 consecutive days and then disappear for 3-4 days. This pattern began around Christmas and has held true for almost every week since. Their movements are far more sporadic in the fall. Tonight marks the 1st expected day of their return so hopes are high.

You may be surprised if you remake a set using a foothold where you caught the coons. Coon are hard on turkey eggs or even a turkey if they get a chance as well. If I get a coon or any other critter in my footholds it gets a remake and sometimes a new set as well.

Consider yourself lucky. My coons and possums will walk past 2 DP’s to destroy a perfect coyote set, lol.

In answer to your question I’ve had a possum in a dirt hole and 2 coyotes came up to check him out and one got caught in a flat set 5 yards away on the opposite side of the road.
Had a double on coyotes on camera with a bobcat sitting down within 10 yards of them just watching. Even left his calling card right there, lol. He was caught 2 nights later.

Doesn’t hurt a thing to have them close.

As long as the traps + catches can’t reach each other, you’re good. If they can reach each other, the first catch will almost certainly fire the other traps

If I'm setting at a location I'm setting a minimum of two traps there in close proximity to each other. I am mostly a red fox trapper and have a high population of them in my area. At locations I know are good for multiple catches I'll make three and sometimes four sets with in ten to fifteen feet of each other.

This method has paid off many times with close doubles and a few times with triples.

I've seen guys do similar with coyotes.

Eh...wot?
