You might ask if they have a staff chaplain and if so, they should be the best patient/family advocate in these cases.
Part of my ministry efforts is to walk down the hall, and meet with case managers, or whoever I need to in order to get families special visitation privileges. Sometimes for only 1/2 hour but I fight the status quo administrators and I'm passionate about it because this is real life stuff.

Hope you have a voice in the hospital because it can be a walled off place.

I find, quite often, that the layers of the hospital legaleze is harder than people's hearts who have to implement "it" so most people will "make an exception," to help folks out if at all possible.
