Wax removed, that paint will stay. Catches will shine them up a bit and remove paint but not completely.

My personal preference is for land traps to be dyed and waxed. Water traps are painted. Try a couple out. You may love it and you may hate it.

Do you prefer primer or paint when you dip yours?

Also do you paint your footholds or just body grips?

I have been using rustoleum primer, paint, and acetone for at least 15 years.
Runny is good. I use a minimum of 50% acetone. 60%, even. Footholds and coni's.
As long as they are de-greased thoroughly, and NO WAX, the treatment is extremely durable. I get 2-3 seasons out of a treatment. And I trap in a pretty challenging environment.

Just doing what I want now.

Thanks for the reply’s. Did a couple
More this weekend and they turned out better then the first batch.
Has anyone tried to wax over the rusteoleum
paint/gas dip after they have aired out for months?

Anyone stabilize/fix the rust with an acid etch? Something like phospho or kleanstrip metal prep?

Seems to me that would both stop rust by converting it on old traps and prep new ones for a better hold on the paint.

I'm planning on giving it a try the next time I get up the energy to do a big batch of traps.

Maybe something like this.

Lye soak if new and greasy or pressure wash if old and dirty.

Good rinse.

Dip in kleanstrip etch.

Neutralize in soda dip.

Overnight dry before acetone/rustoleum dip.

Top with floor wax.

Yep I use muric acid. Get down to the rust some how, get any oil wax or paint off. Give her a bath till it's down to bare metal toss in a buck of baking soda water , wash off real good and let dry
