A 12” Sauger tastes better than a 20” Walleye. Sauger is my favourite fish to eat.

I don't think Mo differentiates between the 2 in the fishing regs anymore. Might be considered the same species.

Studies done back tracing heavy metals in fish put sauger 50X higher than walleye of the same size range. Remember that a 12 inch sauger can be 10-12 years old vs walleye @ 3-5 years.

I think in Wi. if there are spots in the dorsal fin they are considered Sauger.

it is all about that rear spot in the last two rays in being black on the dorsal rays for a walleye ID
minnow barring can happen into the third year in walleye so those spots can occur

Hard to tell the difference. You're not far from a great place to catch sauger. The Kaskaskia river tailwaters.

Ol dad, that is one of his best spots!!! The other being the chain of rocks. He also fishes above or below several islands in the Miss. river. We are supposed to be going here in a few days.
