all the anti russian demonstrations in ukraine that I have seen on news sites have people carrying signs in perfect english...I doubt many people in ukraine speak/write english.

I dont think Russia is a true Communist government but an Oligarch type govt. much like Danny described.

If you go back and watch the original Star Trek episode " A Piece of the Action" with James Tiberius Kirk, the current Russian economic system is very similar to the one on planet Sigma Lotia II.

Russia is no more communist than all the examples of the Bernie Sanders paradises in Europe.

Seems to be lot of splitting hair going on here. Seems to me we should fight dictatorships everywhere they happen by all means possible, no matter what you want to call them.

What Putin was telling his people is that Ukraine is rightfully there land. And that Russia should take Ukraine before they may join NATO, and the U. S. wants Ukraine to keep a buffer between the west and Russia. Putin told his people the U. S. will have a place in Ukraine to dominate Russia. Also the oil gas and many other things very valuable in the Ukraine. Putin is trying to make his people to believe his paranoid self centered ways, he's not a genius but a war monger. This is his history of killing innocent people for his own dictatorship ways.

They are accepting volunteers in Ukraine if you feel that strongly about it.

Why are we the world's cops?
Why are we footing the bill?

They want the world cleaned up, they should do it themselves or pay us to do it.

When they pay us, first should be funding veterans getting proper care, second should be the taxpayers being refunded for every dime spent. Then we can argue over how the profit above that is spent, after #1 & #2 have been properly taken care of.

NATO and the UN are willing accomplices.
The Ukrani are every bit as dirty as the Russ, if not more so.

The Russians invested hundreds of millions into Ukraine. They feel like they haven't gotten their money's worth.
Ukraine flirting with NATO was poking the bear.
US made many promises to the Ukraine. Broke most, if not all.
That first made the Ukrani bold, then left them unsupported and exposed.
The Clinton and Biden crime syndicates both milked tens of millions of dollars out of the Ukraine.

Russia taking back the Ukraine is no different that Texas seceding, then the US taking it back.

A large percentage of their population speaks English, they study it in their schools. It's the international business language. Not a stretch at all to see signs written in English.

I can't speak for Ukraine but from my time in West Germany I would willingly place a bet that sneaky is correct.

As an American I could travel through Germany, France and Spain in the eighties and nineties and have no problem communicating. Most Europeans are almost naturally multilingual seeing as they have so many languages side by side. Heck, Germany itself has several different dialects itself. And they take learning languages in school seriously unlike our playing at electives.
We Americans are pretty much lazy and arrogant when it comes to language.
