Maybe a family squabble, two siblings fighting over dads rifle and bound and determined to keep it in the family.

Current bid is $10,024! Wow, that is a stretch! That is a 1975. I bought the same gun in 1977 for $89 with paper route money. It was good quality. Never put on a scope. Sold it years later for $200.
Like most guys, I used to sell a gun to partially fund a new gun. My Dad used to tell me don’t sell any guns ever. They are a great investment. “Only sell if you get a huge return”. He is long gone, but my Mother still has the pristine Marlin 39a Golden Mountie that she bought on her Montgomery Wards employee discount for him one year for Christmas. Mom gave his other guns to needy and deserving family members.
I have a couple special Marlins too. Tempted to list them! Like you guys who have a nice Marlin, what is its value really? Passing them to heirs may add to estate tax if applicable. Guys going thru a divorce may get hammered to keep / buyout their own guns.
I have been shopping for a Marlin 1895 125/100 anniversary gun. They have been going for $2,000. What is to come? Yikes!

Over $10,000 now. That’s crazy. The gun is in mint condition but nothing really special about it except for that. I’ve got a JM Marlin 35 from the early 70s. But mines no where in that condition. Lots of good deer and memories with mine. Hope to pass it to one of boys one day.

I bought one new just like it with my paper route money back in the late 50's. It was in .35 Rem. caliber and I put a Weaver 3X scope on it. I killed my first buck with it as did my late wife. I paid $52.00 for it back then brand new. I have no idea why this one is going for so much money. It looks to be in minty condition but that's no excuse for that kind of bidding. Someone wants it bad. These weren't built in the late 1850's.
I have nothing clever to put here.

I figure the seller asked 2-3 friends not acquainted with each other to help drive up the price if he got any bids on it. Isn't there an old saying about cheaters never winning? Something we must not be seeing, no way that gun should bring that otherwise. I figure the seller asked 2-3 friends not acquainted with each other to help drive up the price if he got any bids on it. IDK could be but then again I go to a lot of auctions at times and now and then you see some pretty crazy bidding going on where something will go for truly stupid prices sometimes several times what you could get it new for
