What I read was the snake round up In Georgia was the one where they weren't killing any snakes.

They are going to get skinned and butchered. The snakes, or some of them, caught without the use of gripping tongs, may end up in the hands of a venom collecting business.

From 1954-1959 I participated in the roundups at both Okeene and Waynoka, Oklahoma. I only attended one hunt in Sweetwater, Texas. The most rattlesnakes I ever caught in one day was 64. Four of us usually went together. If hunting neat Waynoka we would have breakfast at Coulter's Café before heading to the hills, don't remember the name of the café in Okeene. Folks that lived in the Salina, Kansas area may remember some of us- Harley Elliott, Dennis Henoch, Duane Johnson, Ron Fry.

Where did you come up with that bull crap of no snakes killed at Sweetwater ? I can assure you that snake skinning will start about 9 in the morning and they will start serving fried rattlesnake about noon. They ordinarily cook and sell about 12 or 1400 pounds during the roundup. All of the snakes will have venom collected and sold for medical purposes. Those not cooked will be skinned and the meat sold to a company that process and sells canned snake meat. Hides are usually sold to Justin Boot Co. Some of the intestines will be sold to universities for research. Rattles and heads are sold to a company that makes tie bolos and sells the broken rattles in vending machines.
Sit on your horse on top of a ridge, look out across the country and tell me there is no God.

A person has to like an answer like Cedar Hacker’s... “skinning starts at 9” LOL From 1954-1959 I participated in the roundups at both Okeene and Waynoka, Oklahoma. Folks that lived in the Salina, Kansas area may remember some of us- Harley Elliott, Dennis Henoch, Duane Johnson, Ron Fry. 64 rattlesnakes would be a good day!
