Democrats slammed over bill to hike taxes on major oil companies

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2022/mar/12/democrats-hammered-over-foolish-bill-hike-taxes-ma/

Congressional Democrats want to bring down sky-high gas prices by raising taxes on major oil-and-gas companies, a proposal that dumbfounded critics said would trigger even higher prices at the pump.

The Big Oil Windfall Profits Act introduced Friday by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, Rhode Island Democrat, and Rep. Ro Khanna, California Democrat, would place a tax on each barrel of oil equal to 50% of the difference between current prices and the pre-pandemic 2015-19 average.

Democrats haven't yet realized that an increase in taxes with be passed on to the consumer. They think it's normal for companies to be in business to lose money and they should be OK with that.

In my area thieves are drilling into gas tanks to steal the fuel.

Global warming is a real man made thing to the average liberal. Big D wants to reduce fuel use. Liberals in the city are fine with it. If you only need 10 gallons a week to get to work the increase doesnt hurt much. If you have to drive 30 miles to get groceries it does. Big D does not want the price of fuel to go down. They want it to go up. They want you using public transportation. Living in a city.

What they fail to realize is just redo the taxes for EVERYONE !ANYONE that is making millions in profits should all pay the same taxes. OH but WAIT then they would be taxing themselves !!!! Can't have that .

Those city rats still need to eat. That food doesn’t magically appear in the stores.

Current fuel surcharge, 37%.

Funny how when the price of oil goes up the price at the pump goes up immediately even the they purchased the gas at the lower price. Yet when oil prices go down the price at the pump doesn't until they get a delivery at a cheaper price. I guess it's the difference in old math and new math. Their problem is most folks that vote know old math and it doesn't make sense.

You could not be more right but I dont believe they have enough clue how things work to know that

I was talking to a dock foreman back in the 80's in L.A. (city of industry) I had just hauled in a load of boxed meat from IBP out of Emporia KS. Was a long trip. We only had 36 hours to make those runs back then. 1500 miles and a 55 MPH speed limit. I was in rain all the way to Needles CA. So I told this guy I had been rain most all the way. He says its raining in Barstow? I said no it quit about Needles. He just looks at me funny. Says How far did you have to go? Right on the bills it say Emporia KS and he is the dock foreman. Had no clue where or how far KS was or even that there was a world outside SoCal that they depended on to keep them alive

"August 15, 1971, forever lives in energy infamy. President Nixon’s 90-day price freeze, as extended, disabled the impersonal market forces coordinating supply and demand. Petroleum shortages began the next year, and the industry was fast-tracked to allocation controls and a suite of government programs to increase supply or reduce demand (“gapism”).

Nixon’s action inspired Ayn Rand’s two-part series, The Moratorium on Brains. Murray Rothbard wrote: “On August 15, 1971, fascism came to America.” But the public, believing the “Nixon shock” would check inflation, was generally supportive.

The critics were right. Confirming Friedman’s insight that “nothing is as permanent as a temporary government program,” Nixon’s Phase I turned into Phase II, Phase III, Phase III½, and Phase IV. Worse, petroleum was singled out for continued tip-to-toe regulation under the Emergency Petroleum Allocation Act of 1973 (EPAA), which would not be revoked until early 1981."

In my opinion the real problem isn’t how smart or dumb these people are it that there is no downside for them, no matter how bad a job they do they will still walk out of office with millions banked away with lifetime free health care of the best along with a lifetime pension all paid for by us
