We can get rid on that wild garlic around much of our place. Until the dry part of summer, mowing the grass makes the air smell like onions for a day.

looks like Daffodil's to me, It's a domestic flower that has spread prolifically in Missouri. You see them anywhere there were old houses. Wait a week or two, if that's what they are they will be blooming.

Bigfoot..pm me your address and I'll send you some ramps tomorrow.
I dont know about wild garlic but your pic is not of ramps..

i posted a pic on here if what ramps are.

You asked if they're ramps in ypur picture and they aren't
Thats all im saying

You might be able to eat whatever it is in ypur pic..i wouldn't..because what we have here that looks like that is poisonous.. people are being misinformed on this thread because what you're showing are not ramps.im 1000% sure of that...and and some people are saying they are

No trying to be a jerk but you asked...because you didn't know...i told you..because I do know..that they aren't ramps.and then you wanna get about half crappy about it.

I dont understand that

And farmnhunts is from Mo same as you..not back east..and he says they're daffodils too.

I've known Mark a good while now. No matter what you call the wild onions he posted a picture of, if he says they are edible you can be sure they are. I don't believe daffodils have that garlic/onion smell. His family has been on that same farm for more than 150 years. I am confidant they knew and he knows what is growing there.

can you see some seed heads from last year in these posted picture ?
Daffs usually divide and you can see as they multiply as a clump, those look like individuals started in a clump, like seeds all grew around an area.
most animals do not nip Daffs because of their toxicity and some of those were nipped early in growth

Those are not ramps. Maybe some form of leak. But not a ramp. A ramp will not grow in direct sunlight when wild. I’ve never transplanted them because our ramps are only found above 2,800’ and I’ve never found a patch that wasn’t northern facing and generally shaded with fewer hours of sunlight per day. They will not even grow across a holler that is southern facing when they cover the northern facing side.

Cathryn, I live in Southwestern North Carolina/Northeast Georgia. We don’t have anything over 5,000’ until I get a little farther North. I dug a gallon last weekend and was almost too early. Ours have just broke through the leaf litter are y’all’s ramps as finicky about where they grow? Never dug them in West Virginia but I’ve been all over it and it’s very similar terrain to where I live.

I don't mean to sound crappy . Tapping out a post on a phone is not my preferred way of communicating I tapping this out with my thumb and don't often insert the fluffy words needed to soften my presentation with this format that tends to make everything seem more aggressive than it's meant .

There are people on this thread that are saying they are the same , folks from out east and very woodswise . you keep calling what I have daffodils i assure you they are not daffodils. Daffodils don't have a very very pungent take your breath away aroma of garlic. I understand yours are different than mine and I have mentioned that it has a narrower blade . I will take you up on your offer so I can plant some I would also like to send you some of mine . How much did you say a pound was . I would like enough for a small bed so I would like to pay your normal asking price for a pound .

There are 2 species of ramps. The ramps near me are the narrow leafed ones like in the original poster's pictures. I have eaten lots of them. They are good to eat. Cathryn has the wide leafed variety.

They do to me. If you consider the OP pic is at an earlier stage of development.

Bigfoot pm your address and I'll send ya some ramps for planting.
And they are very fickle as to where they grow.
You need to plant them.on a north facing slope for best results.

Ghost they do need the north facing slope for best results but they don't have to be above 2800 ft at...least not here... We routinely dig them at lower elevations.

I deleted some pms
