I bet the guy in charge of inspecting and repairing the ejection seat is having a bad week since the pilot was not ejected too.

I'm guessing ejection seats have improved... It used to be a dangerous option with a high chance of being severely injured or dying.

No, the article states that the ejection seats are set up so that when one fires the other automatically fires a few seconds after. So the fact that the pilots seat did not fire was a malfunction. The article said when he landed he wasted no time getting out and away from the jet for fear that the seat would fire. They also didn’t allow anyone near the aircraft for 24 hours thinking it may fire as intended (but way late).
