My old Chesapeake Sue, (boy named Sue) after 13 years is just too stiff and sore to make the spring beaver run anymore. It was always fun for both of us to get back on the river after a long winter. My new lab, Kit is picking up the torch this year though. At 1 she’s doing good as far as staying in boat till rereleased etc.

Here is Sue last year:

And Kit yesterday:

Yeah, it was definitely different. He heard us pull in and ran down to the river from the house. Had to lick all the lung blood and water off all the faces! Lol, it’s his “thing”. [Linked Image]

That’s exactly how he did look at me! The wife let him outside b4 i set out yesterday and the old fart ran down to the river and caught me loading up his little sis. He was not a happy dog. I had to take him back up to the house cuz I couldn’t pull away with him watching. Lol

Thanks Rick. Yeah, it sure is rough when they start slipping. They still have the "want to" right till the end it seems, just not the "can do". Sorry to hear about your pup.

Our last dog was a yellow lab. We decided to put him down at 11.5 years when he had a major tumor in his hip joint and quit eating. We all know dogs age much faster than we do and at about 9 years we saw the first signs of arthritis in our dog and within only 5-6 months it progressed rapidly. We could take long walks on the road or trails but traveling uneven ground was not good or easy.
