Because guys sold lol. My guy was at the exact price he paid last year 10 days ago. Whether it was due to a late order or what, who knows. He had been at 75 per lb early on and I held. Went straight run at 92 per pound shipped last week so kinda figured the price would be decent.

Thanks for sharing the intel with us Mud. The best offer I had two weeks ago was $75 and sold it at our OTC sale for $71.33 before 6% commission. At least I didn't have shipping costs and the associated shrinkage that always goes with that.

Do you have any shrinkage figure for your weights after shipping?

I shipped him 15 lb 10 oz. there was leakage and he sends pics of everything including the weight on the soaked towels. It all added up exactly with what I sent. 14.5 lb after leakage and no commission or additional drying calculations. He paid 90 per lb and then an additional 2$ per pound to offset shipping. I felt and feel more than fair.

All 100% true. IMO there’s better outlets for me, but it is a glimpse of the international demand and market currently.

How much castor does an adult beaver have on average?

It seems to depend on the area as well as the time of year. On a good spring run, an average of 6 beavers will get me a pound of castor.

That varies widely IMO. There’s others with far more experience than me, but it will depend on age, time of year, and nature of the waterway. Where I go in Vermont, I trap every few years so the beaver are usually fully mature. Decent pods, but some of the isolated ponds you locate beavers, pods will be small, fur usually exceptional. In Nj, Pa and now here, the same held true.

But in my opinion, river beaver have better castor, lower quality fur. It seems to me, someplace beaver are frequently scent marking, those beavs have better, more full heavy castors. Whether their glands become hyper active or what, I can’t say. My heaviest castor this year was 10 oz and I had quite a few 6-8 0z. Again mostly mature beaver from up north and here.

I said that I heard that the perfumers were going to pay less for castor than they had been in the past. After commission and shrinkage deductions, I'm still there at $80 per pound with no grade.

$80 per Lb sounds great . Only problem with the per Lb figure Is if you send 3 lbs your only going to get paid for 2 Lbs or less.

If you ship to a auction hours your getting screwed.
